The camera is a Leica M2 35mm rangefinder by Ernst Leitz Wetzlar GmbH, Germany, introduced in 1957. Leica is an acronym formed from the words Leitz and camera. The M2 has a rangefinder with a magnification of 0.72 and frames for 35, 50 and 90 mm lenses (instead of 0.91, increased 50, 90 and 135 mm frame the M3). This was more appropriate for photographers who are for short lenses. Unlike the M3, the broadest Frameline are not always visible to a single Frameline series has never been displayed together. All M2 before the race is single. Approximately 82 000 M2 occurred between 1957 and 1968. Around 1500 M2 were produced by Ernst Leitz Canada, but most of them do not identify as such in the top plate.
The M2 has been considered as a simplification of the Leica M3 of 1954 which made it more affordable than the M3 - hence the name "M2." In particular, M2 is the counter in a plate under the drive lever film advance which must be manually reset after recharging. This system has been close to that of the Leica III, unlike M3, which is an independent counter, visible through a window on the top plate, which automatically reset. The telemetry system has been simplified to the M3, making it potentially more likely to explode rangefinder. Finally, the floral bevel around the different windows in the front of the M3 were destroyed the body of the M2.
